Detoxing is all the rage in today's society. Some do it for weight loss reasons. Some do it for chronic condition reasons. Some don't know what it is.

What is a Detox?
Simply put , detoxification, or detox, is a natural process where the body eliminates toxins through organs like the liver, kidneys, and skin. This process is crucial for maintaining overall health, boosting energy levels, and improving mental clarity. By supporting the body's detoxification pathways with a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate hydration, you can enhance your body's ability to cleanse itself effectively.
When it comes to my ultimate detox dish, one awesome ingredient in this Detox Salad is quinoa. Quinoa is packed with many essential minerals, including iron (Fe) which is important in the detox process. Iron is good for blood and oxygen transport, and energy production, and helping to move toxins from the liver.
It screams culinary medicine because it is packed with tons of nutrients that contain natural healing properties. So many healing properties included, that it lives up to the name “Detox.”

One healing property polyphenols from pumpkins seeds which helps to improve blood pressure, insulin resistance, and systemic inflammation.
Another healing property is magnesium from brussels sprouts which helps with glucose metabolism.

Vitamin C from kale may help slow down the progression of Age-related macular degeneration.
Plus iron from quinoa and so much more. With the few benefits I just named above this salad would be great for someone that has diabetes, is borderline diabetic, or shows signs of slightly elevated glucose levels. It's also great for individuals that are trying to reduce inflammation due to it's anti-inflammatory properties, decrease high blood pressure, and someone that needs a jump start with weight loss.
Listen instead of resorting to these extreme measures, focus on a sustainable, balanced approach to detoxing. Incorporate whole foods, like the ingredients in this salad, stay hydrated, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep to support your body's natural detoxification processes. This way, you'll promote long-term health and well-being without the risks associated with fad detox plans. Check out the recipe below.

1 cup tahini
¼ cup (60ml) extra virgin olive oil
1 garlic clove, whole peeled and bruised
½ tbsp. maple syrup

Directions
1. Chop the broccoli into small bite-sized pieces. Slice the kale and brussels sprouts into thin shreds. Thinly slice the carrot. Place all the prepared vegetables into a large bowl and top with the sunflower seeds, cooked quinoa, dried cranberries, hemp seeds and pumpkin seeds.
2. To make the dressing, place all ingredients into a small blender and blend until smooth. Or substitute with a dairy free store-bought dressing of choice. 3. Pour the dressing over the salad and mix well to combine. Serve immediately, or store overnight in the fridge for a quick grab and go lunch.
The great part is you can add more detoxifying ingredients to it and make it your own.
Enjoy!
